At this moment Portugal and other countries around the world suffer an outbreak of COVID-19, many companies are forced to ask their employees to go to remote working. This work and social distance is not easy. For many, the task of working from home can be a real challenge, due to all the distractions that may arise. You may even, without realizing it, end up working longer hours than usual.

To make sure that doesn’t happen, we suggest 7 tips that make your life easier during coronavirus outbreak while on remote work:

Change out of your pajamas for some clothes

To get your day off to the best start, exchange your pajamas for comfortable clothes. Even though you are telecommuting, the fact that you are getting dressed conveys to your brain that you have tasks to accomplish. Pajamas would give you the feeling of slouchiness that we don’t want in working hours.

Limit your workspace

Choose to work only in one space in the house, and in such a way that your work does not affect the other members of the family. This makes it easier for you to concentrate.

To choose this space that will be your new workplace, take into consideration whether it has distracting objects, such as a TV.

Preferably, it should be a space where other members don’t pass by very often. That would not help your concentration.

Use headphones during working hours

Headphones will help you neutralize the sounds around you, whether from your family or neighbors. Choose to listen to music! For many people music is a bridge to concentration.

Daily Task List

Making a to-do list is crucial for having small daily goals. The goals should be achievable and they will help you organize your day in order to accomplish all the proposed tasks.

Work with the right breaks

There are many people who advocate working in blocks of time and taking breaks every hour and a half. According to experts, drinking a cup of coffee, going out onto the balcony, making a phone call, stretching our arms, are some of the actions necessary to get our concentration back. When you are at home, take short breaks; this will increase your productivity.

Use and abuse chat apps

Conversation applications like Skype, Facetime or Snapchat are fundamental in situations like this. Through them we can chat, exchange and discuss ideas as if we were side by side, making our daily tasks and those of our teammates easier.

Be optimistic and creative

Try to have as positive an attitude as possible. Use this time to unleash your creativity and become productive. This is the ideal time to find new opportunities and try to make the most of this time spent at home.
